Tuesday Mar 19, 2019
Tuesday Mar 19, 2019
Court is in Session! Criminal lawyer Scott Cowan is joined by Barry Davis to shed light on athletes that are involved in vehicular legal cases. Jim Boeheim, coach of the Syracuse Orangemen, was involved in a automotive accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. Its a really unfortunate incident. He’s not guilty of a crime but its something he’ll have to live with. The guys peel back the layers of the case to reveal some interesting details about the law. In 1997, 3 members of the Stanley Cup winning Detroit Red Wings were involved in a car accident, resulting in debilitating injuries. There was a suspended licence involved. Why was the limousine driving so quickly? How much jail time did the driver in question get in the State of Michigan? What is the penalty for driving with a suspended licence? Can falling asleep at the wheel be compared to driving under the influence in the eyes of the law? The guys discuss. The responsibilities of the driver of an automobile are revealed. In 2003 Dany Heatley, former NHL, was speeding, lost control and killed Dan Snider in the process. Heatley got 3 years probation. Why such a light sentence? The case of former NHL’er Rob Ramage is used as a comparison in the Heatley case. The wishes of the victim and their families are taken into account upon sentencing, but how much weight does it carry? There are a ton of questions, and Scott and Barry get to the answers. All that and more… Its Outta The Court!
